How to Care for Plants in the Heat

“Bring outdoor life into home”

When the temperatures start to rise, it's important to take extra care of your plants. Here are a few tips to help your plants thrive in the heat:

  1. Water deeply and regularly. Plants need more water in the heat, but it's important to water deeply and less frequently rather than shallowly and more often. This will encourage deep roots and prevent fungal diseases.

  2. Mulch around your plants. Mulch helps to retain moisture in the soil and keep the roots cool. It also helps to prevent weeds, which can compete with your plants for water and nutrients.

  3. Provide shade for your plants. If possible, give your plants some shade during the hottest part of the day. You can do this by planting them under a tree, using a shade cloth, or even just moving them to a shadier spot in your yard.

  4. Fertilize your plants less often. Plants don't need as much fertilizer in the heat. In fact, too much fertilizer can actually damage your plants.

  5. Watch for pests and diseases. Pests and diseases are more common in the heat. Be sure to inspect your plants regularly and treat any problems promptly.

  6. Repot your plants. If your plants are root-bound, they will be more susceptible to heat stress. Repot them in a larger pot with fresh potting mix in the spring or fall.

  7. Give your plants a cool shower. On a hot day, give your plants a cool shower to help them cool down. Just be sure to avoid getting the leaves wet, as this can promote fungal diseases.

By following these tips, you can help your plants thrive in the heat and enjoy a beautiful garden all summer long.
